Iranian envoy to Russia ‘unaware’ of Khojaly massacre

The Iranian ambassador to Russia has said he was unaware of the Khojaly massacre – the brutal killings of Azerbaijanis committed by Armenian armed forces in 1992.

Mahmoud-Reza Sajjadi was asked during a news conference in Moscow on Wednesday whether or not Tehran planned to recognize those developments as a genocide following its recognition by the Pakistani and Mexican senates.

"I am not familiar with any information on the Khojaly massacre, so, I can’t answer your question," Sajjadi said.

During the war fought with Azerbaijan in the early 1990s, Armenian forces attacked Azerbaijani civilians in Khojaly, a town located in Nagorno Karabakh region. 613 people were brutally killed, 1,275 captured, and hundreds of others were disabled and went missing.
