Azeris protest French ‘genocide’ law
The Public Chamber, an Azerbaijani umbrella opposition group, on Wednesday attempted to picket France’s embassy over the French Senate's approval of a bill criminalizing denial of the alleged genocide of Armenians by Ottoman Turks during World War I.
Participants of the unsanctioned protest were not allowed to approach the embassy compound, clashing with police.
The protesters demanded recalling the Azerbaijani ambassador to Paris. They also pledged to continue holding protests.
Representatives of numerous NGOs attempted to protest outside the French embassy on the same day, but law enforcers did not allow them to proceed.
The protesters chanted "France, stop!", "Shame on you, France!", "Stop supporting Armenia that seized Karabakh", and other slogans.
