S. Korean speaker urges world to assess Khojaly massacre

The Khojaly genocide must be given an international legal assessment, South Korean parliament speaker Park Hee-tae has said, referring to the massacre committed by Armenians against Azerbaijanis during the Karabakh war in 1992.

"The Khojaly tragedy must be studied in detail," Hee-tae told media in Baku Friday.

The speaker said he lacks detailed information on the Khojaly events but would really like to learn more about them.

Hee-tae added that Korea supports Azerbaijan's aspiration for peace in the region.

Armenian armed forces on February 25-26, 1992 attacked Azerbaijani civilians in Khojaly, a town located in Azerbaijan’s Nagorno Karabakh region. 613 people were brutally killed in the attack, including 106 women, 63 children and 70 elderly. 1,275 were taken captives, while 487 became handicapped and 190 went missing.
