ABC website removes Karabakh from preferred tourism locations after Azeri protests

US television channel ABC’s website has removed Nagorno Karabakh, an Azerbaijani region under Armenian occupation, from the list of locations advised for travel after protests by the Azerbaijani community in the United States.

Olivia Katrandjian, an ethnic Armenian reporter, in her article posted on the ABC News website, suggested to US citizens as preferable destinations for tourism seven attractive regions of the world, including Nagorno Karabakh.

According to Azerbaijani diaspora representatives, ABC News on Tuesday removed Nagorno Karabakh from the list of preferable locations after it was informed that the region is a zone of armed conflict and an Azerbaijani territory occupied by Armenia.

Nagorno Karabakh has been occupied by Armenian armed forces since a 1994 cease-fire ended a war that killed an estimated 30,000 people and ousted up to one million Azerbaijanis from their homes. The separatist regime in Nagorno Karabakh declared so-called independence at the time of the Soviet collapse in 1991, but it has not been recognized by the world community.
