Statue of Azeri poet in Tabriz stolen– report

The statue of great Azerbaijani poet Mahammadhuseyn Shahriyar in the Iranian city of Tabriz has been stolen, Iran’s Nasrnews website reported on Monday.

The statue is believed to have been stolen at night from a boulevard in Tabriz, the country’s fourth largest city.

City officials have not yet commented on the issue, therefore, local residents lack information about the incident.

A similar theft occurred in the capital Tehran in spring 2010.

Tabriz is the capital of East Azerbaijan Province and is densely populated by Azerbaijanis.
