Bus fares in Baku to be paid with cards
Bus fares in Baku will be paid using cards by the end of April 2012, a Transport Ministry official has said.
Sadraddin Mammadov said passengers will also be able to pay with subway cards.
Coins are currently used to pay the fares.
In order to implement the transition to the new system, special machines will be installed across the Azerbaijani capital, enabling passengers to purchase the cards and load the required amount to them.
The balance on the card can be checked using monitors to be available at bus stops.
Moreover, passengers will be able to return their cards and get a refund of the balance on them, as the machines, along with taking money, will accept cards and issue refunds.
In the coming years, it will also be possible to pay bus fares using cellular phones.
