Aliyev pardons 92

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on Monday enacted a pardon decree for 92 people.

Under the presidential decree, 75 people sentenced to imprisonment and one inmate facing a suspended sentence were pardoned. Also, two people were freed from correctional labor, and the fines of 14 persons were cancelled.

The list of the pardoned people includes Jabbar Savalanly, a young opposition activist of Azerbaijan Popular Front Party (APFP), who was sentenced to 2 1/2 years in jail for illegal possession of drugs in May. Some local and international rights groups had claimed his arrest was politically motivated.
