Plane plunges into lake near Baku, three injured
An exercise plane crashed in the north of Baku on Friday morning, plummeting into a lake. An engine malfunction is believed to have caused the crash.
All crew members on board -- a trainer and two trainees -- were injured after the CESSNA-172 plane plunged into the lake, located in the Masazir settlement of the Absheron district, which encompasses the Azerbaijani capital and its surrounding regions.
The crew directed the plane into the lake to avoid a catastrophe, given that it was flying above a residential area.
The plane was removed from the lake later in the day.
The emergencies ministry, police and prosecutor’s office are investigating the crash of the plane, which is said to be owned by the National Aviation Academy.
