Azerbaijan named strategic partner in Georgia’s national security outline
Azerbaijan is a strategic partner for Georgia, according to a national security concept that was unanimously approved in the Georgian parliament on Friday.
"Georgia and Azerbaijan are linked with traditional relations of good neighborliness," the concept says.
It terms the South Caucasus republic’s ties with Armenia, Azerbaijan’s long-time foe, as "close cooperation".
Turkey is described as Georgia’s "leading regional partner" in the document.
"As a NATO member, Turkey is [our] significant military partner. Georgia attaches great importance to its cooperation with Turkey in the areas of security and defense," it said.
Deputy secretary of Georgia’s National Security Council Batu Kutelia said in parliament that feedback from the country’s Western partners was taken into account while drafting the concept.
