Armenia shoots down its own helicopter during drills
Armenia shot down its own helicopter during military exercises held
in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan's Aghdam district last
Wednesday.
One of the Armenian Air Force's fighter helicopters crashed while maneuvering due to becoming a target of Armenia's artillery by mistake, military sources said.
The accident could not be seen well as it took place behind a mountainous elevation near the town of Aghdam, but eyewitnesses said they had seen a downfall in the trajectory of the helicopter, which was flying at considerable heights.
A powerful explosion was heard shortly thereafter and thick smoke began to spread in the air. Armenian armed forces conducted large-scale military exercises in the occupied area of Aghdam called Uzundara last week. In the largest such drills yet, the arch-foe nation's military used artillery and heavy machinery.
