Pressure group sends protest to foreign ministry
The hard-line Garabagh Liberation Organization (GLO) has sent a
letter of protest to the Foreign Ministry over the opening ceremony
of the Azerbaijani-Israeli Friendship Park to be held on May 8, the
day of occupation of Azerbaijan's historical town of Shusha by
Armenian armed forces.
The letter says that holding such an event on the day of Shusha's occupation was an insult of the memories of those who died for their motherland and disrespect for the Azerbaijani people. "Therefore, this ceremony should not take place on that day," it reads.
The GLO requested the Foreign Ministry to take action to prevent such "a disgraceful step" as well as to scrutinize the matter.
The pressure group has appealed to the Israeli embassy in Baku over the issue. The embassy said in response that the date of the opening ceremony had been agreed with the Azerbaijan Foreign Ministry.
