Azeri president urges to fight falsification of WWII history

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev urged to intensify the fight against falsification of World War II history and "heroization of fascism" during an informal summit of CIS leaders in Moscow on Tuesday, Russian RIA Novosti news agency reported.

The summit is dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), a group of former Soviet republics.

"We should not allow falsification of history and a situation whereby there is a perverse presentation of the World War II events," Aliyev said. "Not only in the sense that someone wants to take the main laurels, but in terms that, unfortunately, heroization of fascism is ongoing in some countries. We cannot leave this behind us and must fight it. We must make joint efforts and pursue our course. And it will be easy, as the truth is on our side."

After the Soviet Union collapse in 1991, the history of the Great Patriotic War (World War II) was subjected to revision in some former Soviet states, and even a tendency of "heroization" of fascists’ cohorts emerged.
