Aliyev, Sargsyan may meet early next year
Azerbaijani and Armenian Presidents Ilham Aliyev and Serzh Sargsyan may hold their next meeting early next year to discuss the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, the French mediator has said in Baku.
"I have already completed my mediating mission, but I think that the next presidential meeting may take place in the first few months of 2012," said Bernard Fassier, the outgoing French co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group, which is brokering settlement to the long-standing conflict.
Jacques Faure, who succeeds Fassier, embarks on his duties from January.
Azerbaijan and Armenia fought a lengthy war in the early 1990s. About 20 percent of Azerbaijani territory, including the Nagorno Karabakh region, has been under the occupation of Armenian armed forces since a fragile ceasefire was signed in 1994. Numerous rounds of Minsk Group-brokered negotiations have been fruitless so far.
