Two Russian combat helicopters brought to Baku
The first batch of Mi-35M military helicopters purchased from Russia has been delivered to Azerbaijan.
The helicopters were brought to the capital Baku from the Rostov-on-Don airport on Monday on board An-124-100 aircraft owned by Volga-Dnepr airline.
Russian Rostvertol joint-stock company is to deliver the rest of the helicopters to Azerbaijan in 2012 in accordance with the agreement signed in September 2010 between Azerbaijan and Russia’s state arms corporation Rosoboronexport.
Under the agreement, a total of 24 Mi-35M combat helicopters will be delivered to Azerbaijan.
The agreement is estimated at $360 million, according to British military publication Jane’s Defence Weekly.
Mi-35 is an upgraded version of a Mi-24 helicopter designed to destroy armored tanks.
