Azeri bank’s employees may face jail term over theft
A group of Azerbaijani bank employees have appropriated large quantities of a customer’s money after forging his signature, the Prosecutor-General's Office said in a statement.
The statement says that after being unable to get back from Royalbank his deposit worth 30,000 manats ($37,500), Ogtay Jafarov approached a Baku district court. It was ascertained that Jafarov’s signature was forged on relevant papers in 2009-2010 in order to deduct money from his account in Royalbank’s Yasamal district subsidiary. The money was embezzled by former executives of the bank subsidiary, the statement said.
Law enforcers have filed criminal charges and the Prosecutor-General's Office anti-corruption department is investigating the case.
The former bankers may face a jail sentence of seven to 12 years, if convicted.
