Azeri parties gaining enough votes at 2015 election to get state funds
Azerbaijani political parties that gain a certain percentage of votes at the 2015 parliamentary elections will be funded by the state, according to an agreement Azerbaijan has reached with a Council of Europe body, head of the parliament’s administration said Wednesday.
Safa Mirzayev told journalists that foreign nationals’ right to establish and finance political parties is the only issue that has not yet been agreed. A relevant proposal was made by the Venice Commission, but Baku did not provide its consent.
The Azerbaijani government has held discussions with the Commission on the newly drafted Law on Political Parties that was passed in 1992. The bill, which is to be passed in parliament after drastic amendments are introduced, also envisions financing of Azerbaijani parties from the state budget.
