Historical documents on Azerbaijan brought from Vatican
Copies of documents pertaining to Azerbaijan found in the Vatican’s secret archives were delivered to the Azerbaijani capital Baku on Wednesday, an official of the Institute of Manuscripts has said.
Farid Alakbarli told APA news agency that the documents, among others, include correspondence between the Vatican and Azerbaijani rulers who governed states that existed in various periods of history – the Elkhani, Atabeyler, Aggoyunlu, Garagoyunlu, Safavi and Gachar states.
"The secret documents contain a total of 1,000 pages," Alakbarli said. "These documents are very important, and will make it possible to shed light on many secrets of Azerbaijan’s history."
Alakbarli said the documents are in a number of languages, including Mongolian, Turkish, ancient Uighur, Arabic, Latin, and Italian.
"Researching them is no easy task, which will take at least several years. Most of these letters are diplomatic ones. Once fully researched, the documents will be published."
