OSCE urges Minsk Group to step up Karabakh settlement efforts

The OSCE has called for more efforts in the peaceful resolution of long-standing regional conflicts, including the Armenia-Azerbaijan dispute over Nagorno Karabakh, in a statement issued in conclusion of the OSCE foreign ministers’ meeting held in the Lithuanian capital Vilnius.

The declaration, released on behalf of the OSCE chair Lithuania, called on the organization’s Minsk Group brokering Karabakh settlement and the conflict parties to take the needed steps to move peace talks forward.

The foreign ministers welcomed in the declaration the progress achieved after the Astana summit, saying a decision had been passed to increase the OSCE’s efficiency.

Participants of the OSCE Ministerial Council meeting also decided to admit Mongolia to the organization.

Ireland takes over OSCE chairmanship from Lithuania from 2012.
