French Senate to host debate on Karabakh conflict

6 December 2011 11:49 (UTC+04:00)
French Senate to host debate on Karabakh conflict

A roundtable on the Nagorno Karabakh conflict will be held in the French Senate on Thursday.

The event titled "Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict, a forgotten dispute" is to be attended by parliament members, leading politicians and historians from France and Azerbaijan.

As part of the roundtable, organized by the Azerbaijani embassy in France, a photo exhibition will be held and Mugham (Azerbaijani folk music) compositions performed.

The Karabakh conflict emerged in 1988 due to Armenia’s territorial claims. Since a lengthy war in the early 1990s, 20 percent of Azerbaijan’s territory, including the Nagorno Karabakh region, has been under Armenian occupation. The Minsk Group-brokered peace talks have been largely fruitless so far.
