Most Afghan-made drugs trafficked via Iran – official
UN experts estimate that 61 percent of drugs are produced in Afghanistan, and most of these narcotics are transported to countries around the world through Iran, the Azerbaijani State Border Service’s chief has said.
Elchin Guliyev told an international workshop on border security and combat against drug trafficking in Baku on Thursday that a lion’s share of narcotics smuggled into Azerbaijan are brought from Iran as well.
"As a result, clashes occur during the prevention of drug trafficking on the border. Seven Azerbaijani border guards have been killed and nine others injured in the armed clashes with smugglers," Guliyev said.
