Police disperse youths’ protest in Baku

Youth activists attempted to protest outside the mayor’s office of Baku on Tuesday.

The members of youth organizations represented in the Public Chamber, an umbrella opposition group, chanted slogans "Restore freedom of assembly!" and "Freedom to political prisoners!"

The police did not allow participants of the unauthorized protest to proceed and detained some of the protesters.

The Public Chamber earlier asked the Baku City Executive Authority for authorization to hold a protest outside the Court of Appeal to demand the release of those arrested during the April 2 unauthorized rally in Baku in which protesters clashed with law enforcers. After the executive authority did not grant permission, the opposition decided to protest outside its building.
