60 Azeris trapped in snow on Iranian highway rescued
60 citizens of Azerbaijan who were trapped in snow on a highway during a trip to the Ardabil province have been rescued, head of Iran’s Red Crescent Society has said.
Mahmoud Mozaffar was quoted by the Iranian IRNA news agency as saying that these people, including women and children, faced the threat of freezing to death, and have now been provided with heat and food.
"They have received warm blankets, bread, dates and canned food," Mozaffar said, adding that the Azerbaijani citizens are in satisfactory condition.
Snow storms in other Iranian regions, including South Azerbaijan and Gilan, as well as in Tehran and Alborz Province, have blocked roads, leaving many travelers stranded. Some of the highways have been shut down due to the wintry weather.
