Azeri, Russian top officials mull UNSC agenda

Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Araz Azimov met with Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Gennady Gatilov, the ministry reported.

Given Azerbaijan's election to the UN Security Council as a nonpermanent member for 2012-2013, the discussion focused on issues of the UNSC agenda on strengthening security and stability in the world and resolution of the acute regional conflicts, primarily in the Middle East and North Africa, the report said.

The sides stressed the importance of constructive cooperation in the framework of the UNSC, taking into account the traditionally friendly relations between Russia and Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijan was elected as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2012-2013, gaining 155 votes from the UN member countries in late October.
