Google service distorts Azeri integrity
Google Voice, a service providing international phone calls, has presented Azerbaijan’s occupied Nagorno Karabakh region as Armenia’s territory. The table of fees listed by US Internet giant Google’s service has a section titled "Armenia-Nagorno Karabakh".
Google Voice, launched in August, is not operational in a number of former Soviet republics, including Azerbaijan.
Google data distorted Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity in the past as well, but the errors were corrected after protests and appeals to the company.
In August, Google Maps distorted a number of Azerbaijani geographic names in the country’s Armenia-occupied territories, indicating them as referred to by Armenians. The Kalbajar region was shown as "Karvachar", Khankandi as "Stepanakert" and Shusha as "Shushi".
About 20 percent of Azerbaijani territory, including Nagorno Karabakh and seven adjacent regions, has been under the occupation of Armenian armed forces since a war in the early 1990s.
