Fake security official arrested
An individual falsely presenting himself as an official of the
Azerbaijan National Security Ministry has been detained.
Bakhshesh Ardashir, a resident of Baku who has no citizenship, had
been previously arraigned twice for such crimes as fraud, robberies
and giving bribes, the ministry said.
Presenting himself as Col. Adil Bakhshaliyev, he was taking over
others' property after promising them employment with the
ministry.
In 2005, Ardashir met with a young man and his father - Anar and
Sadagat Shirinovs - and promised Anar a job at the ministry in
exchange for $12,000. He further conducted fake tests allegedly to
examine the man's readiness for the job and instructed him to file
the paperwork needed for employment at the ministry. Ardashir took
$5,000 from Anar's uncle and agreed with the latter that he would
receive $7,000 more after the alleged hiring.
The Department on Fighting Corruption under the Prosecutor
General's Office has launched a criminal case. Ardashir faces
charges of fraud and appropriating official credentials.
