Karabakh settlement must comply with Azeri integrity - Asian group
The Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno Karabakh must be resolved peacefully and in line with international law and Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity, the head of an organization of Asian political parties has said on a visit to Azerbaijan.
Chung Eui-yong, Secretary General of International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP), said in an interview with the ruling Yeni (New) Azerbaijan Party’s (YAP) website on Tuesday that the Karabakh conflict has caused bitter consequences.
"We are disappointed with this conflict," Eui-yong said. "At the same time, we want it to be resolved soon, because conflicts’ remaining unresolved could pose even bigger threats in the future."
ICAPP comprises over 350 parties from about 50 countries.
YAP deputy chairman Ali Ahmadov is a member of the 18-people-strong steering board of the organization’s permanent committee.
The committee has decided to hold the 2012 general assembly of the organization in the Azerbaijani capital Baku.
