Azeri youths picket Iran embassy
A group of youths attempted to protest outside the Iranian embassy in Baku on Thursday over the violations of Azerbaijanis’ rights in the neighboring country.
The police did not allow participants of the unauthorized protest to approach the embassy compound and only permitted two of them to submit a statement to the diplomatic mission.
The protest was organized by the World Azerbaijanis Congress (WAC).
Iran is home to about 30 million Azerbaijanis, or over 25 percent of the country’s population, which is predominantly Persian. Azerbaijanis have for many years been unable to exercise their constitutional rights, including the right to receive education in their native language.
