Russia to back Azerbaijan’s UN SC bid
Russia will support Azerbaijan’s bid for a non-permanent membership in the UN Security Council, the foreign ministry spokesman has said.
"We appreciate and understand the importance of this issue and will strive for its successful resolution in line with Azerbaijani interests," Alexander Lukashevich told a news briefing in Moscow on Wednesday.
Azerbaijan has been lobbying support for its Security Council bid for the past few months.
Azerbaijan has put forward its candidacy for a non-permanent membership in the UN SC, for the term of 2012-2013, at the elections to be held on October 21.
Azerbaijan, Hungary and Slovenia have all been nominated for the one available seat for the Eastern European region.
