Two senior US State Department officials will visit Azerbaijan in the coming weeks as part of their tour of the South Caucasus region, according to the US embassy in Baku.

Deputy Assistant Secretary for European and Eurasian Affairs Eric Rubin will travel to Azerbaijan, Armenia and Georgia on October 16-22.

Director of the Office of Caucasus Affairs and Regional Conflicts in the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs, Justin Friedman, will visit the three South Caucasus republics from September 28 until October 8.

During the trip, the US officials will meet with government officials and civil society leaders to discuss bilateral issues, as well as issues related to regional peace and stability.

During their stay in Azerbaijan, Rubin and Friedman will discuss the U.S.-Azerbaijan relations, stressing the strategic and shared interests underlying bilateral cooperation in security, energy and democratic reform.

This will be Eric Rubin’s first visit to Azerbaijan as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State. Prior to succeeding Tina Kaidanow in this capacity this July, Rubin served as deputy head of mission at the US embassy in Russia for four years and had other diplomatic assignments in Ukraine, Honduras and Thailand.
