Tabriz-Baku flights suspended

Direct flights between the Iranian city of Tabriz and the Azerbaijani capital Baku that were expected to open on Tuesday have been postponed indefinitely.

The Azerbaijani civil aviation administration said it was expecting Iran’s Kish Air airline to submit papers confirming its authorization to carry out Tabriz-Baku flights, Azerbaijan’s Trend news agency reported.

The administration said Kish Air could launch the flights after all relevant documents have been agreed, but it did not specify when the process would be completed.

The opening of the flights was recently announced by Nader Javani, head of Kish Air’s office in Tabriz. Javani said the flights, which would take place on Tuesdays and Saturdays, would be carried out from the Iranian city on board 150-seat Boeing aircraft. Round-trip tickets will cost about $200, he said.

Tabriz, Iran’s fourth largest city and the capital of East Azerbaijan Province, is densely populated by Azerbaijanis.
