Azeri armed forces launch large-scale drills
Azerbaijan’s armed forces have launched large-scale military exercises involving ground troops and air defense forces, the Defense Ministry told AssA-Irada.
The week-long exercises, being conducted in the Nakhchivan autonomous republic, are overseen by Defense Minister, Col.-Gen. Safar Abiyev.
Azerbaijan faces a long-standing conflict with neighboring Armenia. Since a lengthy war in the early 1990s, about 20 percent of Azerbaijani territory has been under the occupation of Armenian armed forces. Baku has repeatedly warned it would use force to free its occupied land if OSCE-brokered peace talks do not yield results.
