Mine blast kills Azeri soldier on frontline

An Azerbaijani soldier was killed by an anti-tank mine on the contact line with Armenian armed forces on Monday morning, local media reported.

19-year-old Murad Davudov died after the mine exploded in Azerbaijan’s frontline Aghdam region.

The two South Caucasus republics waged a war in the early 1990s. Armenia has been occupying over 20 percent of Azerbaijan’s territory since then. A ceasefire accord was signed in 1994, but OSCE-brokered peace talks have been largely fruitless so far.
