Turkey dismisses allegations on abuse of cadets

BAKU – Turkey has dismissed allegations about the country’s cadets’ facing pressure in Azerbaijani military schools made in opposition Yeni Musavat newspaper’s article published last week, labeling it as baseless and "a far cry from the truth", Azerbaijan’s defense ministry said.

According to the ministry, the Turkish embassy in Baku said in a statement that such reports, circulated by Azerbaijani and Turkish media, represent an attempt by some forces to tarnish the fraternal relations between the two countries.

"We do not take the circulating reports seriously," the defense ministry quoted the embassy’s press office as saying.

The embassy noted that the Yeni Musavat article, which quoted anonymous sources, also aimed to "harm the image of Defense Minister Safar Abiyev, Turkey’s friend, and put pressure on him."
