Azeri officer wounded by Armenian troops
BAKU – Armenian troops wounded an Azerbaijani officer on Wednesday night, in another ceasefire violation in past months, according to Azerbaijan’s Defense Ministry.
Lieut. Gabil Abdullayev was hospitalized after being shot in the head on the contact line of the two countries’ troops near Azerbaijan’s Fuzuli region.
The serviceman is in stable condition, the Azerbaijani ministry’s deputy spokesman Teymur Abdullayev said.
Azerbaijan and Armenia waged a war in the early 1990s. Armenia has been occupying over 20 percent of Azerbaijan’s territory since then. A ceasefire accord was signed in 1994, but OSCE-brokered peace talks have been largely fruitless so far, and sporadic clashes on the frontline continue.
