E-signature use begins in Azerbaijan

BAKU – Electronic signatures began to be used in Azerbaijan on Wednesday, a measure that will allow to fully avail of electronic services and help to remove red tape in the country, deputy communications minister Iltimas Mammadov has said.

The signature will cost 14 manats ($17.7) per year, including value added tax, for private individuals, 60 manats ($76) per year for businesses and other legal entities, and 135 manats ($171) for a period of three years for employees of state bodies.

"Having analyzed the situation in other countries, we calculated the optimal cost of the digital signature. But these are fees that will be in effect until January 15, 2012," Mammadov said, adding that the fees might be reconsidered afterwards.
