Baku condemns possible steps against Georgian integrity
The Azerbaijani government condemns Russia's intention to forge ties with the unrecognized Georgian republics of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, the Foreign Ministry spokesman said Monday.
Khazar Ibrahim said Baku was opposed to any steps contradicting the neighboring country's territorial integrity.
"Azerbaijan fully supports Georgia's territorial integrity. We denounce any steps contradicting this principle and state that preventing them would facilitate resolution of the conflicts," he said.
The Russian Foreign Ministry said last week that Moscow planned to forge close ties with the de-facto authorities of the two republics, saying such relations would strengthen security in the region.
Tbilisi has condemned the plans, accusing Russia of interfering with its territorial integrity.
