PACE members on visit to Azerbaijan
BAKU – Chairman of the Committee on Legal Affairs and Human Rights of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Christos Pourgourides and committee member Elsa Papadimitriou are on a visit to Azerbaijan, the sources in the Azerbaijani parliament, the Milli Majlis, said.
"Chairman of the PACE Committee on Legal Affairs and Human Rights Christos Pourgourides and committee member Elsa Papadimitriou on Thursday arrived in Baku at the invitation of the head of the Azerbaijani delegation to the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly Elkhan Suleymanov," sources in the Parliament said on Thursday.
Pourgourides and Papadimitriou will hold a meeting with Justice Minister Fikrat Mammadov and Prosecutor General of Azerbaijan Zakir Garalov, members of the public committee at the Justice Ministry and will visit a detention facility and penal institutions on Thursday.
They are expected to meet with Speaker of Milli Majlis Oqtay Asadov, Head of department for law enforcement agencies at Presidential Administration of Azerbaijan Fuad Alasgarov and Chairman of the State Committee for Religious Organizations Hidayat Orujov on Friday.
They also plan to meet with President Ilham Aliyev.
