Released inmates to get temporary housing
Azerbaijani inmates who lack residences will be provided with
temporary housing after serving their jail terms, according to a
document endorsed by the government.
Under the new regulations enacted by the Cabinet of Ministers, prisoners will be granted dwelling space for a year after their release from detention. Their age, gender and health condition will be taken into account in enforcing the regulations. Moreover, women with dependents of up to 14 years of age are to be provided with housing immediately upon release, a government source said.
The term of stay in government housing may be extended for another year under special circumstances and with authorization from local executive authorities.
Besides Azerbaijani citizens, the regulations apply to foreign nationals permanently residing in the country, as well as citizens who return to Azerbaijan within three months after being released from detention at penitentiary institutions abroad.
