US phone firm website shows Karabakh as Armenian territory

BAKU – US producer of Internet phone gadgets Magic Jack has indicated the Armenia-occupied Nagorno Karabakh region of Azerbaijan as Armenian territory on its website.

The error was made in the company’s list of international fees. The list shows that calls to Karabakh cost 33 cents per minute.

Azerbaijani diaspora groups have sent a letter to Magic Jack demanding to immediately correct the error.

"Nagorno Karabakh has been and is de jure recognized as Azerbaijan’s territory in the United Nations Security Council resolutions, several resolutions of the UN General Assembly and by the State Department," the letter says.

The Azerbaijani diaspora representatives added that Magic Jack is "sending a wrong signal" to the world community and confusing its customers.

Nagorno Karabakh has been occupied by Armenian armed forces since a 1994 cease-fire ended a war that killed an estimated 30,000 people and ousted up to one million Azerbaijanis from their homes. Ethnic Armenian separatists are running a self-proclaimed republic there.

The UN has passed four resolutions on an unconditional pullout of Armenian armed forces from the occupied Azerbaijani territories, but none of them have been implemented so far.
