Azeri cleric appeals to Christians after Norway terror act

BAKU – Azerbaijan’s clerical leader has issued a statement condemning the terror act committed by a Norwegian national in the capital Oslo that killed at least 76 people, calling on Christians of the world to refrain from such bloody crimes and religious and ethnic discrimination.

32-year-old Anders Behring Breivik is suspected of killing at least 68 youngsters at a ruling Labor Party youth camp, after killing eight in an earlier bombing of Oslo's government district. Breivik said he committed the crimes to "save Europe from Muslim takeover". His defense lawyer said Breivik pled not guilty and claimed his client was likely "insane".

In his statement, Caucasus Muslims Office (CMO) chairman, Sheikhulislam Allahshukur Pashazada said the Christian terrorist’s feeling no remorse for his actions was an "alarming signal".

"Radical followers of Christianity, by taking such actions, in fact, sully religion, which bears sacred values," the statement said.
