US-Azeri military drills scheduled for July 31
BAKU – U.S.-Azerbaijan military exercises that were postponed earlier will be held in Romania on July 31, an Azerbaijani defense ministry official has said.
Maj.-Gen. Ramiz Najafov, who heads the ministry’s department on international affairs and Euro-Atlantic cooperation, said the two countries will exchange experience on planning and conducting peacekeeping operations.
According to Najafov, 100 servicemen from each country will take part in the two-week-long exercises.
The "Regional response-2011" exercises were initially scheduled for May 15-25 but later postponed. US officials said the drills had been put off upon Baku’s request.
Najafov said that from September 2011 till the end of 2012, Azerbaijani and US servicemen will participate in 50 joint events, including exercises and seminars.
