BAKU – Two gunmen broke into a currency exchange station in Baku on Thursday morning, opening fire at its employee, and escaped from the crime scene with hefty cash, the interior ministry said.

The 25-year-old employee of the exchange station, who comes from the Nakhchivan autonomous republic, died on the way to a hospital.

The attackers walked away with about 20,000 manats (over $25,000) in cash, according to preliminary data from law enforcement agencies.

The exchange station is located in the Bina shopping mall, near the Baku airport, 25 km away from the center of the Azerbaijani capital.
