Turkey to sign gas deal with Azerbaijan during PM’s visit

BAKU – Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan is due to pay a visit to Azerbaijan in late July during which the two countries are expected to sign an agreement on the exports of Azerbaijani natural gas via Turkey to European markets, reports say.

The first meeting of the joint High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council will be held in Baku during the visit as well.

Erdogan said prior to the June 12 parliamentary elections in Turkey that he would pay his first foreign visits to Azerbaijan and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, if the ruling AKP party wins the elections. The elections were won by AKP.
