Fares for London cabs slashed in Azeri capital

BAKU – Fares for TX4 London cabs that recently began to be used in the Azerbaijani capital Baku have been reduced.

Customers have so far paid 1 manat ($1.25) flat rate and 0.7 manats per kilometer of the distance covered.

According to Baku Taxi, the private firm running the taxis, the new fares depend on the distance the customer travels. It will remain at 0.7 manats per kilometer for up to 10 kilometers of distance, 0.4 manats per km for a further 10 km and 0.2 manats for the distance exceeding 20 km.

Baku residents may call *9000 to order a TX4 cab. The passenger is insured in the amount of 10,000 manats (over $12,600).

TX4 cars, made by Manganese Bronze, maker of London's traditional black cabs, have unique features and are made specifically for taxi service. The taxies are known to be made of steadfast metal and, along with meeting all international standards, are reliable in terms of safety.

100 TX4 cabs of violet color have already been delivered to Baku, with a total of 1,000 cars expected to be available by the end of the year. The order is worth a total of $27 million.

The cabs are being supplied by Shanghai LTI, British Manganese Bronze company's joint venture with Chinese car manufacturer Geely Automobile Holdings. It is Manganese Bronze’s largest contract it had received for its London taxi.
