Azeri media ombudsman’s tasks vested in top rights defender
BAKU – The Azerbaijani parliament voted on Friday to grant credentials of the media ombudsman to the country’s senior rights defender.
From now on, the Ombudsperson will also oversee observance to the Law on Access to Information by government agencies, local bodies and officials, according to amendments to the relevant constitutional law, approved by the Milli Majlis.
The law, passed in Azerbaijan in 2005, envisioned establishing the institute of a media ombudsman, but such a body had not been set up.
