Financing of Azeri parties depends on election votes, official says
BAKU – Financing of political parties in Azerbaijan depends on the votes gained at the 2010 parliamentary elections, a senior official said Monday.
"In other words, it does not matter if the parties are represented in parliament," Ali Hasanov, a department head at the Presidential Administration, told reporters. "The main point is that funding can be available for the parties that have exceeded the required barrier."
Funding issues have been reflected in the newly developed draft law On Political Parties, which has been submitted to the Council of Europe’s Venice Commission to receive feedback.
Hasanov added that the bill does not cover repeated registration of political parties.
