Aliyev congratulates Turkey’s Erdogan on election win

BAKU – Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has congratulated Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan on a convincing victory of the ruling AKP party in parliamentary elections held on Sunday, the Azerbaijani president’s press service said.

During a phone call later in the day, President Aliyev said that under Erdogan’s leadership Turkey has covered a long successful path, underlining that this victory was an expression of the Turkish people’s trust in the AKP party he chairs.

AKP won just under 50 percent of the votes in the AKP's largest electoral victory since it came to power in 2002.

The Azerbaijani leader and Turkish prime minister expressed confidence that brotherly relations between the two countries would successfully develop in all areas in the years to come.

Aliyev invited Erdogan to visit Azerbaijan at a time convenient for him. The Turkish premier accepted the invitation.

In a congratulatory message sent to Erdogan on Monday, Aliyev voiced confidence that the Azerbaijani-Turkish strategic partnership will further expand for the sake of the two nations’ well-being.
