Aliyev cites ‘good conditions’ for Karabakh solution

BAKU – President Ilham Aliyev has said "good conditions" have emerged for a fair settlement of Azerbaijan’s long-standing conflict with Armenia over Nagorno Karabakh.

President Aliyev told a news conference with his Slovenian counterpart Danilo Turk in Ljubljana on Thursday that it was important to change the status quo in the Karabakh conflict. He expressed hope that the ongoing peace talks would yield results and Azerbaijan's territorial integrity would be restored.

About 20 percent of Azerbaijani territory, including Nagorno Karabakh, has been under occupation of Armenian armed forces since a ceasefire was signed in 1994 following a lengthy war.

The Azerbaijani and Armenian presidents will hold talks in the Russian city of Kazan with President Dmitry Medvedev’s mediation on June 25, the ninth in a series of trilateral meetings on the Karabakh conflict.
