Council on creeds to be set up at UN
An advisory council on creeds will be established under the United Nations.
The decision was passed at a meeting of world clerical leaders with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon in Moscow on Thursday.
Working groups will be swiftly set up to deal with forming the new body.
The Islamic world will be represented at the council by the clerics from Azerbaijan, Iran and Jordan.
The meeting was attended by the Caucasus Clerical Office chairman, Sheikh Allahshukur Pashazada. The participants welcomed his initiative to hold the next inter-religious summit in Baku in October 2009.
