Armenia provoking Azerbaijan to launch war: defense ministry
BAKU – Armenia is provoking Azerbaijan to launch war, Azerbaijan’s defense ministry spokesman has said.
"Violating ceasefire on a daily basis, opening fire at residential areas, repeated changes in the Armenian stance in international level negotiations, political manipulations, and casualties on both sides resulting from ceasefire violations are proof of that," Eldar Sabiroghlu told a news conference in the frontline Beylagan region on Friday.
According to him, Armenian armed forces have breached ceasefire 447 times in the past five months.
Six Azerbaijani soldiers have been reportedly killed in the latest ceasefire violations.
Sabiroghlu said Azerbaijan’s military is currently the most powerful one in the South Caucasus region.
"The Azerbaijani armed forces are ready to fulfill any military task," he added.
About 20 percent of Azerbaijani territory has been occupied by Armenian armed forces since a war in the early 1990s. Peace talks brokered by US, Russian and French mediators have been largely fruitless so far. Azerbaijani officials have repeatedly warned that the country’s land will be freed at any cost.
